Much of my work is informed by the pre-modernist painters from the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. I admire the Symbolists, Realists, Impressionists, and Post-Impressionists.
I work slowly and deliberately, striving to capture the inner truth of the subject or moment. A painting nears completion not only when the representation is believable, but when it evokes something palpable. I believe, as Cezanne said — "feeling is the principle, the beginning and the end; craft, objective, technique — all these are in the middle."
In all of my work, I'm trying to uncover the extraordinary in the ordinary, the spiritual in the mundane, the absurd in the serious. I'm less interested in describing the world than I am in revealing the unexamined life within it. Through this perspective, I aim to create timeless, harmonious images that resonate with quiet certitude.
